Blossom Buddies is the name of the cultural program that Blossom gives to our community partnership program that benefits the academic lives of our students. The more visual, the better. The students rely on their eyesight. This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to truly develop an understanding and appreciation for the visual world of art.
Strokes of Genius Program with the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts
From October through May, monthly workshops are conducted at the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). All school-age children enrolled at Blossom explore the exhibits under the guidance and expertise of experienced museum personnel. Topics covered are classic masterpieces and their artists, culture, history and geography of the time the piece was created. This is a cross-curriculum program, so that teachers can follow up with in-class discussions, assignments and reviews. This partnership is the first of its kind for deaf students at the MFA! In May of each year, the MFA has a "Garden Party" for our students. Blossom students arrive in character as their favorite artist and answer questions about their lives and masterpieces.
Eckerd Theater Company
As part of an ongoing partnership with Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Eckerd Theater Company (www.eckerdtheatercompany.com) conducts various theatre performances at Blossom.
Our students are also invited throughout the year to attend various presentations at Ruth Eckerd Hall. We are proud to have them in our Blossom Buddies program.
Deaf presentations
Blossom is always on the lookout for successful Deaf adults to share their artistic talents. We have been fortunate to have Chuck Baird, a famous Deaf artist, present a lecture and artistic demonstration for Blossom students.
