Give the Gift of Stock/ Securities

Gifts of stock are welcomed.  Donating gifts of appreciated securities to Blossom that have been held for more than one year enables you to:

·         Avoid all capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the stock

·         Qualify for the tax deduction equal to the stock's full fair market value

·         Make a larger gift than might be possible otherwise

Blossom recommends that if you have decided to make a gift of stock, please consult your accountant or financial planner for more information, then contact Maria Kadau, the Director of Development at (727) 539-7879.  We will not know to expect your gift unless you notify us. We want to note your giving record and properly thank you for your generosity.  Transfer instructions will be provided.

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer their employees and retirees a matching gift for their charitable donations.  Does your company provide a match?

Planned Giving

The children of Blossom will benefit for years to come with your designation of the school in your estate planning.  The term "planned giving" refers to charitable gifts that require some planning before they are made. Planned gifts are popular because they can provide valuable tax benefits and/or income for life.

Planned gifts of various types are welcomed.  Whether you have cash or other assets, such as real estate, artwork, or partnership interests, the benefits of funding a planned gift can make this type of charitable giving very attractive to both you and to Blossom.

Potential Benefits of Planned Gifts

·         Increase current income for you or others

·         Reduce your income tax

·         Avoid capital gains tax

·         Pass assets to your family at a reduced tax cost

·         Make significant donations to charity

With the assistance of your financial advisor, you can craft a planned gift to meet your charitable and financial goals.

NEW -- IRA Rollover Provision Extended

If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can donate funds from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a charitable organization such as Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf without taxation.  The IRA Rollover provision expired at the end of 2007; however, the initiative was reinstated as part of the $700 million economic bailout bill signed by President Bush in October 2008.  The provision is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008 and will apply to gifts made from that date through Dec. 31, 2009.   The following limitations apply:

The donor must be age 70½ or older
The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000

The contribution must be a direct gift to a charity (no planned gifts)

Gifts In Kind

If you wish to make an in kind gift to Blossom it is subject to approval by the Director, Julie Rutenberg.  All gifts of real property are subject to Board approval.

Please contact Maria Kadau, Director of Development at (727) 539-7879, or email mkadau@blossomschool.org if you have any questions regarding the options above.

Why Donate to Blossom?

Blossom is one of only two Montessori schools in the United States, and the only school in Florida educating deaf students.

With almost 100% of our students receiving some sort of financial aid, there is a significant gap between family tuition and the total cost per student to operate our school.

Will you please help?  In these tough economic times, community support is crucial in closing that gap. Here are some examples of how you can make a difference:

  • $10,000 ($833/mo.) would provide one full year of support services such as speech, language, physical, behavioral and occupational therapy for the entire school
  • $7,000 ($583/mo.) would fund a scholarship for a financially needy Upper Elementary student
  • $5,500 ($458/mo.) would provide a scholarship for a financially needy child in pre-school
  • $4,000 ($333/mo.) would fund part of a professional development course for our Montessori-trained teachers
  • $2,500 ($208/mo.) would fund enrichment classes such as art, music, and theatre for an entire semester
  • $1,000 ($83/mo.) would provide one classroom's  materials for one year, including science and technology needs
  • $500 ($41/mo.) would fund 3 field trips for our school

YES!  I see how small monthly gifts can add up to big results!  Please sign me up for monthly giving!

With our extensive, personalized support system for each student and family, Blossom has emerged as a wonderful alternative for parents across Tampa Bay to place their children.

THANK YOU for considering Blossom for your charitable giving!
